ولادة فن جديد
عندما واجه فنانو العالم الغربي لأول مرة لوحات أوكييو-إي اليابانية والمطبوعات الخشبية، أذهلهم عدم انتظامها وخطوطها المنحنية وألوانها النابضة بالحياة. كان أسلوب أوكييو-إي مختلفًا إلى حد كبير عن الأساليب التاريخية السائدة في أوروبا. أثر فن أوكييو-إي بقوة على ولادة حركة آرت نوفو (“الفن الجديد” بالفرنسية). الفن الحديث، الذي تم تحديده من خلال التصميمات الخطية والمنحنيات المتدفقة المستندة إلى الأشكال الطبيعية، أطلق اتجاهات جديدة للعديد من الفنانين. ومن بين هؤلاء أنطونيو غاودي وفينسنت فان جوخ وكلود مونيه.
